THE DESIGN PROCESS
Research · Concept Development · Prototyping · Creating

During my leathermaking class at ESMOD, we were assigned a project to design and construct a bag. While I now spend a lot of time studying the business side of fashion, this project brought me back to what I enjoy most - the process of creating!

The following pages document the concept, design development and making of a statement bag inspired by the visual language of luxury fashion.

The Brief
To design and produce an accessory for a luxury fashion house.

The Concept
A deliberately oversized, highly visible statement bag inspired by the aesthetic codes of Givenchy. The design explores exaggeration and impracticality as a way of creating recognisability and cultural presence. It aims to drive cultural conversation and reinforces brand relevance beyond commercial performance.
Like other cult accessories in fashion, the bag prioritises visual impact over functionality. It is intended less as an everyday object and more as a symbol - something distinctive, polarising and instantly identifiable.

Why It Works
Its scale and impracticality make it impossible to ignore. By prioritising recognisability over utility, the bag becomes a cultural object rather than simply a commercial product, exploring how accessories can generate visibility, conversation and brand relevance.
